Joining fraternities or sororities promotes spiritual and moral development of the youth

I've always been led to believe that groups such as fraternities or sororities are full of people who are bad, because that's how the media paints them. And I am not fully aware of how most of these organizations work anyway, so I'll just say what I know.

First, what is a fraternity/sorority? My understanding of it is that it is a group created to achieve something through mutual support. I don't see anything wrong with that. Especially if the frat has a worthy goal, like helping each other with studies so they can. The main thing wrong with the frats is the hazing, something overly focused upon by the press but is definitely happening.

So back to the main topic, would joining fraternities or sororities promote spiritual and moral development of the youth? Theoretically, yes it would. It is a group where you are expected to support each other, and you will always learn something from other people, no matter what your relationship with them may be. On the other hand, I don't really see why an recruit has to go through abuse just to join such a group. Anybody can see (should see) that undergoing hazing to be accepted into a frat is absolutely ridiculous. Hazing is immoral, and so any frat that practices it is not a frat worth joining.

Fragmentation of the Family

As we all know, the number of broken families nowadays is very large and increasing. People make hasty decisions, not really considering whether or not they truly love a person, whether they are willing to spend the rest of their lives with their partner. In these cases, separation is being used as an escape route. But is separation really the right choice to make? After all, what of the children, if they have any? Many children are traumatized by their parents' separation. They will grow up missing a key figure in their life: a mother or a father. Left unchecked, they can turn to drugs, smoking, drinking, and other vices. All in all, the value of a whole family decreases.

So what would be the root cause of all this? Should the presence of divorce and annulment be blamed? Personally, I don't think so. Although it is a factor, I think what really causes the fragmentation of families is the lack of careful thought and planning. If you are want to marry a person, make sure that you want to be with them for the rest of your life. If not, someday the person that you once loved might become the person you hate the most. Never forget the future of your children once you have them. It's not only you and your partner that will be affected by splits in the relationship.

For what shall it profit a man if he gains the whole world but loses his soul?

In this case, your soul represents your humanity, the good traits you possess, such as humility. The most important trait here is the quality that allows you to appreciate life and all the things that come along with it. Without appreciation and contentment of what is given to you, you cannot truly enjoy it. So what does a man profit in the question? Absolutely nothing.

Life is God's gift to the person, how the person lives it is his gift to God.

Life is precious, because God saw it fit to grant it to each and every one of us. He gave us the responsibility to live out our lives, and by living an honest and good life, we are repaying his kindness. To waste our potential and time is almost like an insult to Him. So let's all remember to treasure our lives.
